#Meetthegravity9ers with Alex Avery
When it comes to disrupting entire industries and building transformative customer experiences, you need an exceptional team that can build these products at pace.
Our team at gravity9 is just that: highly skilled, driven, passionate, and fun to work with.
We continue our Meet the gravity9’ers series by introducing Technical Content Creator, Alex Avery.
What is your role at gravity9 (and what is your expertise)?
I’m gravity9’s Technical Content Creator – something of a Swiss Army knife in terms of role and remit – I create written and image-based content across the company, including social media and our website.
My role sits within the marketing team, so this could mean anything from light-hearted social posts about our social events to complex technical case studies of the work we’ve done for our clients!
What advice would you give someone looking to excel in your work?
Keep your mind open, adapt, consider your audience, and don’t be afraid to learn.
Some content, like a case study describing a client project, may not shift much in style or rely on social trends. However, social media is always on the move, and the same approach won’t always yield the best results.
Always be ready to learn and think outside of the box.
What do you enjoy most about working at gravity9?
Three things:
A sense of camaraderie means that even when working remotely, we feel like a team with a shared goal, all pulling together in the same direction.
The variety in my work. I love that there’s always something different to turn my hand to.
The desire to learn. I’ve never worked alongside a group so invested in learning, growing, and evolving both themselves and what they do so tirelessly. It’s refreshing!
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I’ve been an avid photographer for many years, with an eclectic interest in shooting everything from wildlife to motorsports, music festivals, and even a couple of weddings.
This combines brilliantly with my other loves of the great outdoors and my Cocker Spaniel, George!
What would be your dream vacation?
Something involving a campervan and a lot of roads… Route 66 across America, or the North Coast 500 around Scotland!
I enjoy a sunbed and cocktails as much as anyone, but there’s so much to see out there that I couldn’t sit still for long.
What grinds your gears (your pet peeve)?
People who stop in shop doorways to check their phones or have a chat!
What’s your favorite quote?
“Space is big. Really big. You just won’t believe how vastly, hugely, mind-boggling big it is. I mean, you might think it’s a long way down the street to the chemist, but that’s just peanuts to space!”
– Douglas Adams, The Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
What’s your favorite book, movie, or TV series?
My favorite TV series is Spaced, a lesser-known British comedy about a group of dysfunctional young adults trying to navigate housing, love, writer’s block, a fear of dogs (and bamboo), and how to steal a tank to invade Paris. It’s quirky and nerdy, has pop culture in spades, and has a happy ending.
Much of the same cast and crew went on to give us the movies Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World’s End!
