When it comes to disrupting entire industries and building transformative customer experiences, you have to have an exceptional team that can build these products at pace.

Our team at gravity9 is just that; highly skilled, driven, passionate, and fun to work with!

We continue our Meet the gravity9ers series with the introduction of Loghman Zadeh.

What is your role at gravity9 (and what is your expertise)?

I work at gravity9, based in the UK, as the AI Practice Lead. My main duties include building and leading a new AI practice team, defining an engagement model to deliver AI projects to clients, designing intelligent go-to-market offerings, and coaching team members and clients to help them better understand tools, processes, and techniques. Additionally, I lead client engagements to deliver appropriate, high-quality AI solutions.

I have over two decades of commercial hands-on experience working within software, machine learning, data science, and AI contexts. Also, I have designed and developed intelligent systems across Generative AI, vision, NLP, speech, and optimization problems for different verticals. My main strength is my positive attitude and determination to learn and succeed.

What advice would you give to someone looking to excel in your line of work?

To succeed in this role, it is essential to have a genuine passion for your work, coupled with a thirst for knowledge and a commitment to learning every day. Finding joy in what you do is crucial to excel in this field. This passion fuels the resilience and dedication needed to navigate the complexities and ever-evolving nature of AI.

What do you enjoy most about working at gravity9?

The culture at Gravity9 is amazing, with a focus on challenging ourselves and being passionate about what we do. I appreciate working with senior individuals who have extensive knowledge and no ego. Furthermore, I love the culture of problem-solving rather than the solution-first approach to clients.

Tell us a resource that you find insightful in your field of work?

One of my favourite AI resources is “Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach” by Stuart Russell and Peter Norvig book. It is widely recognized as insightful and useful in the field of AI and machine learning and is often considered a definitive guide!

It covers a broad range of topics in AI, including search algorithms, knowledge representation, machine learning, natural language processing, and robotics. The book is known for its clear explanations and comprehensive coverage of the fundamental concepts and techniques in AI. It’s suitable for students, researchers, and practitioners who want a deep understanding of AI principles and methodologies.

Another invaluable resource is the online platform Coursera which offers a variety of courses in artificial intelligence and machine learning. These courses are often taught by leading experts in the field and provide both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. For example, the “Machine Learning” course by Andrew Ng is a popular choice for many AI enthusiasts and professionals looking to deepen their understanding of the subject.

Tell us about your hobbies and interests. What do you do in your spare time?

Every day, the first thing I do is walk or run for at least an hour. This helps me keep my mind fresh and be prepared for the day ahead.

My main hobbies include running, hiking, football, painting, reading, and learning. It’s not surprising, but AI is a significant part of my life, and every corner of our home has a sign of AI, whether it’s papers, books, or on the TV, as my wife is also an AI specialist.

I am a fan of cheese and tea and want to try all types of cheese and teas.

What would be your dream vacation?

My dream vacation is an ambitious, once-in-a-lifetime journey around the world with my wife. It’s a vision of exploring every country on Earth, immersing ourselves in the rich tapestry of global cultures, and meeting diverse people from all walks of life. This extensive travel would not only be a journey across the globe but a journey into the heart of human diversity and unity.

Who inspires you, and why?

Andrew Ng is a renowned figure in the field of artificial intelligence, and he serves as a significant source of motivation for me. His pioneering work in AI and machine learning, particularly his contribution to the popularization of the deep learning revolution, has had a profound impact on the technological landscape. What inspires me the most about Andrew Ng is his unwavering commitment to democratizing AI education, making complex concepts more accessible to a broader audience, and his dedication to using AI to solve real-world problems. His vision and approach to technology as a force for good deeply resonates with my aspirations in the field.

What really grinds your gears (your pet peeve)?

Sugar-free drinks that are surprisingly sweeter than normal ones and it looks like sugar cubes had a party in the bottle!

What’s your favourite Quote?

“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” – Mahatma Gandhi

This profound statement has always resonated with me, serving as a constant reminder that real change begins within ourselves. It inspires me to embody the values and transformations I hope to see in the world, reinforcing the power of personal responsibility and action in shaping a better future.

What’s your favourite book, movie, or TV series (and why do you love it)?

My favourite TV series is “This Is Us”, a show that holds a special place in my heart for its deeply educational aspect from a psychological perspective. It masterfully triggers common senses and emotions, weaving stories that resonate with real-life experiences and human complexities. I love how it shares a profound feeling of connectivity and understanding, offering insights into the human psyche while providing a beautifully narrated and emotionally rich journey.
